Gasoline prices set record high for Thanksgiving Day

Average retail gasolineprices in Birmingham have risen 1.5 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging$3.19 per gallon Sunday. This compares with the national average that has not movedin the last week to $3.43, according to gasoline price website

Including the change in gasprices in Birmingham during the past week, prices on Sunday were just over 7cents per gallon higher than the same day one year ago and are 14.5 cents pergallon lower than a month ago. The national average has decreased approximately14 cents per gallon during the last month and stands 11 cents per gallon higherthan this day one year ago.

"While Thanksgiving2012 is now behind us, the stigma of record high gasoline prices is not,"said Senior Petroleum Analyst Patrick DeHaan. "ThanksgivingDay 2012 featured the highest ever daily average for the holiday, beating out2011 by over 10-cents per gallon." {}

There are a several factors influencingupward and downward swings, but DeHaan feels that, for the most part, gasolineprices will not fluctuate too much from where they are right now throughChristmas.
