Georgia contractor killed in Adamsville, Saturday, identified
BIRMINGHAM - AL —
Family has identified the Georgia contractor who was hit and killed by a truck, Saturday in Adamsville.
A niece tells ABC 33/40 the man was 48-year-old Kevin Gates.
Around noon, Gates was doing contract work for the state when a female driving a pick-up truck drove through a blocked-off section of Highway 78 in Adamsville. He died at the scene.
A woman was also injured. Family identifies her as 44-year-old Sabrina Gauze.
Gauze and Gates are married by Common Law in the state of Georgia, according to family.
Gauze's hand was mangled in the incident, but was released from UAB Hospital, Saturday night.
The niece says Gates has been cremated in Alabama and family is expected to take his remains back to Georgia.
The woman driver, whose name was not released pending charges, was taken into custody, Saturday. Investigators on scene say they will be pulling phone records to determine if the woman was texting-and-driving at the time of the incident.
