Governor Robert Bentley accepted $49 million of U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development funding Wednesday during a check presentation in Cordova.
The money, which communities can apply for beginning Thursday, will help areas continue to rebuild following the April 2011 tornadoes.
"It's a fresh start," said Governor Bentley. "You can't replace lives but you can replace buildings."
The funding was announced in March, and Governor Bentley is encouraging communities in rural areas to apply, although areas statewide are eligible for the funding.
