Graduating seniors bid farewell to former Ramsay principal


Graduating seniors at Ramsay High school hugged their former principal after receiving diplomas Wednesday.Dr. Evelyn Nettles attended the graduation at the Bill Harris Arena. Nettles was removed from the position and assigned to Kennedy Alternative School. She's on paid administrative leave and has since sought legal help to get re-instated at Ramsay.Students say seeing her at the graduation was bittersweet."Dr. Nettles and her presence was something different. It's a rarity. You don't get somebody that comes and executes their job and be a mother and execute that role well," Senior Sidni Smith.Birmingham Schools Superintendent Dr. Craig Witherspoon, Mayor William Bell and school board members greeted students as well.By then end of Thursday, more than 1,400 students would have graduated from Birmingham City Schools.
