Half of Birmingham City pools close for maintenance
Half of Birmingham City pools remain closed due to maintenance issues. ABC 33/40 has learned all 18 city pools, with the exception of one at Maclin Park undergoing major construction, were suppose to open over the Memorial Day weekend. But crews still must complete work including re-surfacing, cleaning and plumbing.ABC 33/40's Marissa Mitchell first reported in February that newly-named Parks and Recreation Director Kevin Moore feared pools wouldn't be ready in time for summer. During a committee meeting, Moore told city leaders major repairs were needed.Since then, Mitchell has learned the city has approved money for pool improvements and work has begun. The problem, however, is that families will have less time at some park pools this year than they intended.Parks and Recreation Spokesperson Stanley Robinson says the pools should be ready within the next two or three weeks.Stay with ABC 33/40 for more on this developing story.
