Hamlin to miss six weeks with neck injury

Denny Hamlin's neck injury is expected to keep him out of Sprint Cup action for at least six weeks.

Hamlin{}suffered a fractured vertebra in a final lap crash last weekend in California. Doctors say{}the NASCAR star{}won't need surgery but the injury needs time to heal.

Joe Gibbs racing said, in a statement, that Hamlin will not race until he has medical clearance.

His streak of 264 consecutive starts will end at Martinsville (VA) this weekend.

Hamlin was injured when his car hit head-on into a wall after contact with Joey Logano.

NASCAR ruled that neither driver was trying to intentionally wreck the other, and does not intend to punish Logano.
