Hands on Birmingham, Mayor to honor neighborhood volunteers

Hands on Birmingham and the city of Birmingham will honor the neighborhood presidents of the Cities of Service Love Your Block initiative on Tuesday, April 1, 2014.{} It will take lace at The Vulcan Park Museum in the Electra Room from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.{} Mayor William Bell will present each of the ten neighborhood presidents with a special commemoration plaque recognizing the neighborhood participation and completion of the community improvement projects.

Cities of Service-Love Your Block is a grant initiative by The Bloomberg Foundation.{} Neighborhoods write grants to apply for funding of improvement projects within the neighborhood.{} Selected neighborhoods then work together to plan, coordinate and implement the revitalization projects through neighbors and volunteers working together.
