Head of Highlands School named Administrator of the Year

Kathryn Woodson Barr has been chosen by the Alabama Association of Foreign Language Teachers as the recipient of the 2013 Administrator of the Year Award. Upon notification of her selection, Mrs. Barr immediately credited Highlands Founder, Mrs. Evalina Spencer, for the emphasis she placed on children studying a foreign language.

Mrs. Barr is honored to be able to continue this educational tradition for her current students.{} During Mrs. Barr's tenure, Highlands has added Mandarin Chinese to the Foreign Language program which already included French and Spanish.

Highlands received Confucius Classroom award for its Chinese program in 2011.{} This award was presented by Troy University and representatives from China. It also included a grant to continue the study of the Chinese language and culture.
