Heavy rains from Hurricane Isaac could increase mosquito problem

As Birmingham prepares for Hurricane Isaac, residents should be aware that standing water from heavy rains is likely to bring an increased amount of mosquitoes to the area.{} Mosquitoes have recently made headlines for their transmission of the deadly West Nile Virus.{}{}Here are some tips{}to eliminate areas where water may accumulate once the storm hits.

  • Use soil or gravel to fill low areas in lawns and landscaped areas.
