Monday night, Tuscaloosa Mayor Walt Maddox made recommendations to city council on how to spend more than 48-million dollars in Community Development Block Grants for H.U.D money..

Nearly $500,000 would help rebuild the Salvation Army's homeless shelter and $1 million would be allocated to Habitat for Humanity. The plan also includes improvements to parks and roads.

Mayor Maddox wants to use $2.8 million for a public technology library in Alberta and he wants to use more than $5 million to upgrade the city's technology infrastructure, which could provide high-speed internet city-wide.

City council members hope to vote on the proposals by May 7. If HUD approves the plan, the city will have two years to make it all happen.
