Home For the Holidays: House dedication today

There are a pair of new home owners in Birmingham. {}Thursday, Habitat for Humanity and ABC 33/40 dedicated two houses as part of "Home For the Holidays." {}Dedra Kimbell and Monique Boyd were full of emotions at the key presentation ceremony. {}Both mothers stood side by side with their two boys by each of their sides. {}As Dedra accepted the keys to the family's new house, her sons Carl and Carlos affectionately supported their mother as she realized a life long dream of owning a home. After the keys were given to the women, gratitude was handed out to sponsors, volunteers and crew members that helped the houses take shape. {}It was a very emotional time for the families, who shared tears of joy.Monique Boyd is the mother of two small boys. {}She says they are blessed and grateful for everyone's hard work. {}They also shared in the work. {}Monique's family had to put in 300 hours of sweat equity, building other habitat homes before work could begin on her house. {}Boyd says it was an eight month process. {}Although the soggy weather is keeping families from moving in immediately, Boyd says "I'm just gonna move stuff in day by day. {}Hopefully it will be pretty neat by Christmas."Getting Christmas into the Kimbell household is a top priority. {}"My very next step is purchasing a Christmas tree so I can put it in the living room and get moved in by Friday," said Dedra Kimbell. {}Her teenaged sons will be helping the moving process, which is supposed to start Friday and continue through Saturday. {}However, the tree comes first, according to Kimbell. This is the 10th anniversary for Habitat for Humanity's "Home For the Holidays" dedications. {}It is also the first year to dedicate two homes, simultaneously.
