      Homewood Patriot Marching Band member named U.S. Army All-American

      Maggie Williams, a drum major with the Homewood High School Patriot Marching Band, was honored on Tuesday for being named to the 2013 U.S. Army All-American Marching Band.

      The band is made up of top high school band students from around the nation, and they will perform on January 5, 2013 during the U.S. Army All-American Bowl in San Antonio, Texas.

      "I'm just so excited. This is an incredible opportunity to represent the community of Homewood." Williams said at the ceremony. "It's such a wonderful community that supports music education. I'm just so thrilled to be going."

      Following William's presentation, the Homewood Band Director, Ron Pence, announced that the Patriot Band was selected to perform at the 2014 Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena, Calif.{} It is the fourth time Homewood has been selected to play at the event.

      In 2011, the band performed in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade for the eighth time in school history.{} No other school outside the New York City area has more appearances in the annual event than the Patriot Band.
