Hoover gets more sidewalks near schools

Sidewalks are being built in certain neighborhoods in Hoover near schools. The latest addition {}is near Green Valley Elementary.

Hoover Mayor Gary Ivey says the city applied for and received two "Safe Route to School" federal grants in 2010. The city paid for the design of the sidewalks and the grant pays for the actual construction. Sidewalks are being constructed near Green Valley now and soon sidewalks will be added near Bluff Park Elementary. The grant allows for up to two miles of sidewalks to be built near schools.

Mayor Ivey says the city will continue to apply for more federal grants to add more sidewalks under the safety program.{} He added it is purely coincidence the sides are going in at a time when Hoover's school bus program is in jeopardy.
