Hoover plans to keep an officer in each elementary school for remainder of the year

The Hoover City Council has agreed to add up to $100,000 to the fiscal 2013 budget to keep a police officer in every elementary school for the remainder of the year.

School Resource Officers are already in Hoover's high schools and middle schools, but they were added to the elementary schools after the massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary in Connecticut.

Hoover Police Chief Nick Derzis says this is what parents want, and he expects to hire four additional officers to accommodate the new security plans.
