Hoover police: Man shot and killed by 2-year-old son in apparent accidental shooting

Update, 8:30 p.m.

The Hoover Police Department says an apparent accidental shooting claimed the life of a 31-year-old man Tuesday afternoon.

According to a release, officers and paramedics were called to The Cliffs at Rocky Ridge Apartments shortly after 3 p.m. on a report of an unresponsive person. Upon arriving, paramedics found a man suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A preliminary investigation appears to show that the victim's 2-year-old son accidentally shot his father, though other possible scenarios remain under investigation.{}

"Other possible scenarios are being investigated but at this time there does not appear to be an intruder or any third person involved," Hoover Police Cpt. Gregg Rector said. "However, this investigation is still in its very early stages and detectives are not completely ruling out other possibilities."

An autopsy is expected to be performed on the victim's body. The man's name will be released Wednesday.
