How to find a missing loved one

Some prayers were answered Thursday. Some people believed to be missing were reunited with their loved ones. But there's many others who are stilling searching and praying that they're own family members will be found alive.

Unfortunately, there is no one way to file a missing persons report.

Reports can be filed with local police departments. But{}some{}are{}asking to make{}certain{}the person believed to be missing{}was in the damaged area when the storm hit.

Birmingham police do have dedicated phone lines. Call 787-1488 or 787-1487. You will need to give your name and contact information, as well as the missing person's name and address so police can search that property.

In Cullman County, you can call 1-888-421-1266 or simply 211 locally. That line also has information about shelters.

Hundreds of people were transported to local hospitals. To mention a few,{}UAB has treated 134 people and{}DCH in Tuscaloosa more than 600.

If you believe your relative is among the injured, call the patient hotlines.

Red Cross has a place on it site for people who may be okay but are not reachable by phone. Go to redcross.org then under "getting assistance" click "contacting family." You can list yourself as being safe and give contact information so your family can reach you. There's also a search function to locate people who are missing.

You can also call 1-800-Red Cross.
