The human remains discovered in Pell City last week have been identified as a man who has been missing since April 2012.
Using dental records, the St. Clair County Coroner determined the remains found by children playing in a wooded area near the Fox Hollow subdivision on Aug. 2 are that of 21-year-old Forrest Ammel. It is believed that Ammel died from a gunshot wound to the head, but investigators have yet to determine if his death was a homicide or suicide.
According to their father, the children weren't too disturbed by their findings, which included Ammel's skull.
Pell City police found a gun, cell phone and identification card nearby the skeletal remains. An investigation by police and the Alabama Bureau of Investigation remains ongoing.
