Humane Society honors dog fighting investigators
The officials who directed a dog fighting investigation that stretched across four states have been honored by the Human Society of the United States.The Humane Society presented its 2014 Humane Law Enforcement Awards on Tuesday to U.S. Attorney George Beck of Montgomery, Assistant U.S. Attorney Clark Morris, former FBI agent Keith Baker, two current FBI agents and an Auburn police officer for their work in the nearly four-year investigation. The names of the Auburn officer and the two FBI agents were not released for security reasons.
The investigation culminated in August, with officials seizing more than 360 dogs and arresting 14 people from Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi and Texas. The defendants have pleaded not guilty and are scheduled for trial May 8.
