Updated: I-65 and Hwy 31 reopened after man threatened to jump from bridge
Update - more information:Around 8:15 Wednesday morning, the Alabaster Police Department had several 911 calls about a person that appeared to be planning to jump from the I65 bridge. Officers arrived with a couple of minutes and began negotiations with him. At this point all traffic was stopped on the interstate and Hwy 31.
At 9:20 am the person backed away from the edge and was taken into protective custody and transported to UAB hospital.
Update:The roadways have been reopened.
As of 9am, interstate 65 and highway 31 are both closed from exit 234 to exit 242. This affects traffic in both directions.
Motorists are encouraged to find alternate routes and please drive carefully.
