Authorities in Alabaster are on the scene of a double homicide at a motel along U.S. Highway 31.

Deputy Police Chief Curtis Rigney confirmed an infant was killed in what appeared to be a domestic-related incident at the Shelby Motor Lodge.{} The infant was believed to be between three and five months old.{} Rigney said another person was seriously wounded.

Mayor David Frings later confirmed the other person, who is the infant's mother, had died after being airlifted to UAB Hospital.

Authorities said the victims appeared to have suffered stab wounds.

Frings said a male suspect in the deaths was in custody, and there was no threat to the general public.{} The suspect was also wounded and was receiving treatment at a hospital before being taken to jail, the mayor said.

Police said they were first alerted to the incident around 11:00 a.m. Friday when someone spotted the male suspect standing outside a motel room bleeding.

Authorities were not yet detailing the connection between the suspect and the victims.

ABC 33/40 will continue to provide more information as details become available.
