Inmate pleads guilty in tax fraud scheme


{} {} Federal authorities say an inmate serving a 10-year prison sentence has pleaded guilty to committing tax fraud while behind bars.{} {} Officials say David Marrero filed various false documents to the Internal Revenue Service and claimed a tax return of over $2.7 million. Authorities say Marrero fraudulently claimed that several companies withheld federal taxes from him. Officials say Marrero used other people's financial documents without their knowledge to file the fraudulent claims.{} {} Officials did not provide information on how Marrero obtained the documents. {}Authorities say Marrero will spend an additional 46 months in federal prison. The offense carries a maximum fine of $250,000. Marrero's sentencing date has not been set.
