Irondale firefighter in critical condition after going into cardiac arrest while battling fire

IRONDALE, Ala. -- An Irondale firefighter is in critical condition Saturday night after going into cardiac arrest while battling a structure fire, ABC 33/40 has learned.According to a released statement, the firefighter is currently undergoing "hypothermic therapy" at Trinity Medical Center in Birmingham. The firefighter, whose name is currently being withheld, was performing an overhaul of a house fire when he went into cardiac arrest. He was treated at the scene then transported to the hospital.The Irondale Police Department posted the following message on its Facebook page:"We are asking for prayers for one of our Irondale firefighters who was injured on duty this morning while fighting a house fire. He is in critical condition at Trinity Medical Center. PLEASE PRAY FOR HIM AND HIS FAMILY."ABC 33/40 will continue to follow this story and provide updates as more information is made available.
