Homeless dogs may find a new home in time forthe holidays when the Birmingham Ballet and the Greater Birmingham HumaneSociety join forces for a new adoption promotion and fundraiser, billed as TheMutt-cracker.
The Friday evening performance of the BirminghamBallet's The Nutcracker is sure to bespecial. Alumni dogs from the Greater Birmingham Humane Society will appear inthe opening scenes of the ballet and briefly in Act II. Some dogs will be onleash, while others will be carried by dancers. Audience members will have theopportunity to meet the canine stars before the show and during intermissionand to find out more about others who need a forever home for the holidays.
Dogs from the Birmingham area and surroundinglocations are being called to audition for various roles today! Auditions are from 2:00 to 4:00 at the Birmingham Ballet Performing Arts Center, located at 2198Columbiana Road in Vestavia. Please arrive about 15 minutes early. Roles areavailable to dogs with and without special skills or behaviors. Rescue dogs areencouraged to audition.
Rehearsals for The Mutt-cracker will begin inNovember and be primarily once a week at night or on Saturdays. The one-night-onlyperformance of the show will be at the BJCC on Friday, December 7that 7:30 p.m.
Ticketsto The Mutt-cracker and all Nutcracker performances can purchased online at www.birminghamballet.com. One dollarof every ticket sold to the Friday night performance will benefit the GreaterBirmingham Humane Society.
- Must be vaccinated, well-mannered, socialized,and non-aggressive
- Should be on a leash
- Audition will be completed with the company oftheir owners and/or trainers
- If your dog has special skills, you will be asked to show them.Dogs without special skills will be evaluated for their ability to participatein a performance.
