Broken machine leads to long lines at Vestavia Hills polling site

The line to vote at Horizon Church in Vestavia Hills became longer after a counting machine stopped working on Tuesday morning. (

In Vestavia Hills, hundreds of early morning voters had a longer wait than expected at the Horizon Church on Columbiana Road.

The delay was caused when one of the counting machines stopped working. The fire marshall had to be called in after there were too many people in the church.

At one point, the wait for voters to cast their ballots was nearly three hours.

Election officers at Horizon Church say if issues still surface with the vote counter, some ballots may need to be counted by hand once the polls close.
