A Jacksonville man is in critical condition after being shot in the back.Jacksonville Police Chief Tommy Thompson said paramedics initially worried the bullet might have hit the spine of 22-year-old Vilas Rajesh Patel.{} Thompson said it seems the shot narrowly missed, and exited through Patel's chest.Investigators confirm the shooting appears to have been a set-up.{} Thompson said Patel was at his home in the 700 block of Mountain Avenue when he received a phone call just before 11 p.m. Monday. The caller asked Patel to meet him at a house in the 800 block of Mountain Avenue.{} Police said it appears the caller wanted to "talk business", and Thompson said the business deal went bad."While he was there, he was shot from behind and the assailant left in a vehicle," Thompson said."We do have a description of the vehicle and we have a pretty good idea who the shooter is."Investigators are checking phone records to track down their suspect.{} Police want to assure the community they do not need to worry."There's not a mad man running the streets shooting people.{} This was a one on one type incident, just like most murders are done," Chief Thompson said."People in disagreement do things they shouldn't do and regret it later."The current charge is for assault, but Thompson said it may become an attempted murder case.
