Jacksonville State promotes John Grass to head coach
Jacksonville State appreciates a quick strike approach as much as it's new head football coach.
The Gamecocks named John Grass to the position Tuesday night, just hours after Bill Clark left to become head coach at UAB.
"I'm just blessed to have this opportunity," Grass told AL.com. "I'm thankful for Coach Clark giving me the chance to come into college football last year and appreciate the administration having the confidence in me to give me this opportunity."
Grass was JSU's offensive coordinator last season when the Gamecocks offense set numerous school, OVC and National records. The offense had more yards, points, and touchdowns than any other season in school history. It scored on 24 drives of less than one minute.
JSU's quick response to it's coaching vacancy should allow the program to keep the momentum from last year's 11-4 season and maintain the recruiting relationships with national signing day approaching.

Grass spent 17 seasons as a high school head coach before moving to the college level. He spent his final five high school seasons with the Oxford Yellow Jackets, where his family still lives.
