James Osgood gets death sentence for 2010 slaying in Clanton
CLANTON, Ala. (AP) - A judge in Clanton has ordered a death sentence for a man convicted of killing a woman after forcing her to perform sex acts. Circuit Judge Sibley Reynolds followed a jury's recommendation in handing down the sentence Friday for James Osgood. A Chilton County jury convicted the 44-year-old of two counts of capital murder. The judge said the case involved the darkest set of facts he's dealt with in his legal career. Prosecutors alleged Osgood made the woman perform sex acts on him and his girlfriend while being held at gunpoint and then cut the woman's throat in October 2010. Osgood's co-defendant and girlfriend at the time, Tonya Vandyke, has pleaded not guilty and faces trial in December on capital murder charges. Clanton is about 50 miles north of Montgomery.
