James Spann on rain moving through Alabama Tuesday
ABC 33/40 Chief Meteorologist James Spann provides the latest information on the rain moving through Alabama Tuesday.
From the ABC 33/40 Weather Blog:
At mid-afternoon, rain was widespread across Alabama, generally west of I-65. A soaking rain was falling in Tuscaloosa, and the rain was moving into the Birmingham metro area at 3:30. Some lightning is showing up south of Tuscaloosa.
SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH FOR SOUTHWEST ALABAMA:
SPC has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for a small part of Southwest Alabama including Sumter, Marengo, Wilcox, and Butler Counties south down toward Jackson and Monroeville. Storms in this region could produce some hail and strong gusty winds over the next few hours; the watch is in effect until 9 p.m.
Elsewhere, rain will spread into East Alabama over the next few hours. A little thunder is possible, but no severe weather is expected over the northern half of Alabama, where the air is pretty cool and stable. Rain amounts of 1/2 to 1 inch are likely, with some spots south of Tuscaloosa in West Alabama possibly picking up over one inch.
Showers will taper off tomorrow morning, and by early afternoon most of the rain will be out of Alabama. A decent chance we will see a little sunshine tomorrow afternoon as drier air moves in, and the high will be around 80 degrees.
THURSDAY THROUGH THE WEEKEND:
Dry weather is the story, with sunny pleasant days and clear cool nights. Highs between 80 and 84, lows between 58 and 62 for most places. No rain for high school or college football.
A weakening cold front might bring a shower or two late Sunday night or Monday, but rain amounts, if any, should be light and spotty. The middle part of next week looks dry as we get into October, which is usually our driest month of the year.
