Jefferson Co. hires first female county attorney

Carol Sue Nelson from Maynard, Cooper & Gale was chosen{}Thursday to be{}Jefferson County's lead attorney.{} If she accepts the position, she would be the first woman{}to hold the job.

Nelson is the second person named to{}replace{}Jeff Sewell, who{}involuntarily retired last month after{}commissioners voted to terminate his employment.{}{} Commissioners originally voted to hire Alabama Supreme Court Justice Mike Bolin, but he withdrew less than a week after being appointed.{} He said feedback from his family weighed heavily on his decision.

Nelson is expected to{}start June 3rd.{}{}She will make{}$224,000 annually.
