Jury awards victim who was sexually assaulted by pastor $1 million in civil suit
TRUSSVILLE - AL —
A Jefferson County jury has awarded Elizabeth Echols $1 million in a civil verdict.
On Thursday, a jury found former youth minister David Webb, of Word of Life Christian Center in Trussville, guilty of assault of a sexual nature and battery, trespass on her body, wantonness, and seduction of an underage and unmarried woman. The verdict was for compensatory and punitive damages.
David Webb is currently incarcerated in a federal prison in Arkansas after pleading guilty to violations of the Mann Act, transporting a minor across state lines for sexual purposes. Webb waived his right to appear at the civil trial.
David Webb was arrested in California and transported back to Alabama in January 2009. On May 5, 2009, William David Webb changed his plea from not guilty, to guilty for taking 15-year-old Echols across state lines for intent of sex.
