Jefferson County Manager Tony Petelos reveals he has cancer during weekly meeting

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ala. -- Tony Petelos, the former mayor of Hoover and current Jefferson County manager, announced Thursday morning he has cancer and plans to take a leave of absence next month.The 60-year-old Petelos, who has served as county manager since 2011, revealed the disheartening news during a weekly meeting with county commissioners and other leaders.Information regarding the specific type of cancer Petelos has been diagnosed with hasn't been made available at this time, though, he did say his illness was discovered during a regular check-up with his doctor.The county hasn't said if it will look for a temporary replacement for the county manager position.
