JSU's DaMarcus James on preseason watch list for Payton Award

Jacksonville State's DaMarcus James is one of the top football players at the FCS level.

That sentiment was reinforced when the Gamecocks junior running back was named to the Walter Payton Award watch list. The Sports Network released the list of 20 FCS players who are the frontrunners to earn the honor awarded to the FCS's outstanding player.

James set a JSU single season record with 1,477 yards rushing last season. His 29 rushing touchdowns were the most in a single season in the history of the Ohio Valley Conference.

He was named first-team All-OVC and has earned a number preseason All-American honors this offseason.

James will begin the season having scored a rushing touchdown in 12 consecutive games. Jacksonville State kicks off the 2014 season at Michigan State on August 28.
