Judge dismisses key parts of EWTN lawsuit on contraception

{}A federal judge in Mobile has dismissed key legal claims made by the Eternal Word Television Network in its lawsuit to block the federal government's rules on contraception for employees. U.S. District Judge Callie Granade sided with the government in tossing out claims that the requirement is unconstitutional and infringes on religious freedom. The Irondale based Catholic broadcasting group says it will appeal.EWTN claims that the government is violating its rights by requiring employers to provide health care coverage that includes contraception. The religious broadcaster says the possibility of abortion-inducing medicines and sterilization violates tenets of the Roman Catholic church. Dozens of church-related organizations have filed suit over the law across the country.The U.S. Supreme Court heard arguments earlier this year in a case involving the law's contraception provisions, but the justices have not yet ruled.
