Judge extends temporary restraining orders in Birmingham Board of Education case

After a Jefferson County Circuit Judge will heard testimony for the second day on the Birmingham Board of Education's case involving the superintendent's firing and the State Board of Education's takeover, Judge Houston Brown extended the temporary restraining orders for 10 days or until further notice.{}

Judge Brown also asked for proposals from attorneys on requests for permanent injunctions by Wednesday.{}

Brown will decide whether to replace restraining orders with injunctions after a temporary restraining order reinstated Witherspoon after board members voted to fire him. Another TRO prevented the board from interfering with the state.{}

Board President Dr. Edward Maddox and former interim superintendent Samuetta Drew asked to be removed from the lawsuits.{}

A ruling is expected after Wednesday.{}
