Jury calls for death of convicted Shelby County man

A jury in Chilton County is recommending the death penalty for a man convicted of sexually abusing and murdering a woman. Jurors deliberated less than 30 minutes before unanimously recommending death for 44-year-old James Osgood of Shelby County. Osgood was convicted of killing 44-year-old Tracy Brown in October 2010.{}Evidence showed the man and his girlfriend made Brown perform sex acts at gunpoint. Testimony showed that Osgood told investigators how he cut Brown's throat and stabbed her twice in the back. Defense witnesses told jurors that Osgood has substance abuse problems and is a sex addict with multiple psychological problems.{}His girlfriend at the time, Tonya Vandyke, also is charged with capital murder. Her trial is in December.
