BIRMINGHAM - AL — Kodi Burns is Samford football's new running backs coach. The former Auburn player worked as one of the Tigers graduate assistant coach's last season. Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn says Samford is getting an outstanding coach and calls the move a "home run hire" for the Bulldogs."He understands the game," Malzahn told reporters in Mobile on Monday. "He can work under pressure. There's probably more pressure on Saturday's than anybody else when he's beside me - all the signaling and making things right."Burns has been a graduate assistant the last two seasons. Malzahn gave Burns his first coaching job at Arkansas State in 2012 and brought him to Auburn as part of his staff last season."Kodi has excelled as a player and a coach, but more importantly, he is an outstanding person," Samford football coach Pat Sullivan said in a press release. "He will be a tireless recruiter that will relate well to both our players and coaches. We could not be more excited to have Kodi join the Samford football family."Burns replaces the Bulldogs former running backs coach, James Joseph.
