      Lance Hyche prepares to leave AEA

      After 14 years, a changing of the guard at the Birmingham area office of the Alabama Education Association. UniServ Director Lance Hyche is leaving. Tuesday evening's Birmingham Board of Education meeting will be his last.

      Hyche has formed his own public{}affairs{}company that will do lobbying work for clients in Montgomery. Hyche handled legislative lobbying, media, membership recruitment and political action for the Birmingham market.

      He has been at the center of a number of issues with the Birmingham school district, including the state takeover that required a number of employee cutbacks.

      Hyche's last official day with the Alabama Education Association is February 4. He expects his replacement to be named in early February.
