Last second shot helps Miles advance at SIAC tournament
Ty Lollar hit a driving lay-up with 1.9 seconds to go to lift Miles to a 76-74 win over Clark-Atlanta in the opening round of the SIAC tournament.
Lollar, who attended Shelby County High School, got the ball in his own backcourt with 7.9 seconds left and drove straight to the rim.
He finished with 21 points. Miles' Willie Gray also scored 21 for the Bears.
Miles (4-23) trailed by as many as 15 points in the first half but closed to within 10 at halftime and kept chipping away at the lead in the second half.
"I've been stressing to these guys that we've been in games but we had not made timely shots," Miles coach Will Cotchery told AL.com. We never made timely shots. Tonight we made timely shots because the way we play, we're going to be in a lot of tight ball games."
Miles will play Tuskegee in the SIAC quarterfinals on Wednesday night at 7:45. The Golden Tigers won the league's regular season western division title.
