      ABC 33/40 Chief Meteorologist James Spann kicked off the Christmas Day severe weather coverage at 2 p.m., streaming live here.{}

      Here is the latest update from Spann and company at alabamawx.com, the ABC 33/40 weather blog:

      "The main severe weather is still at least a couple of hours away for us here in Alabama. The warm sector is moving northward behind the retreating warm front. We will be watching to see how far north it gets.

      "A line of intense thunderstorms is pushing across Central Louisiana and into southwestern Mississippi. Ahead of this and south of the warm front, the airmass is becoming moderately unstable and wind fields are extremely strong. This means that any storms that form ahead of the main line have the potential to produce strong, long track tornadoes.

      "Storms along the line will produce widespread damaging winds and more tornadoes later tonight as they move through.

      "We will delay the main window for severe weather by couple of hours. The primary window is now from 5 p.m. today to 3:00 a.m. tomorrow. The initial threat over West Alabama begins around 5:00, then spreading east. For those of you traveling across the state today, consider completing the trip by 5 p.m. over West Alabama, and by 7 p.m. over the eastern side of the state."

      We'll continue to update this post with the latest information from the Alabama Weather Blog. You can watch Spann's live stream below.
