Lawmakers want AG to investigate Cooper Green fund

Cooper Green Mercy Hospital supporters are once again asking the state attorney general to step in. But this time, they want charges filed against the Jefferson County Commission.

Representative John Rogers believes the county took too much money out of the indigent care fund for administrative costs. That fund is used to operated Cooper Green.{}Rogers and Representative Mary Moore{}want the attorney general to force the county to return the money.

"We are asking the attorney general to press charges to find out what they did with the money and why they can't pay it back," said{}Rogers.{}

Annual audits have shown no mishandling of hospital funding.

Money problems are forcing the county to close in-patient care and the ER. Announcements about service agreements and date to end those services is expected within the next few weeks.
