According to a first of its kind study, being bilingual enhances a person's ability to process sounds and pay attention.

Researchers at Northwestern University compared teenagers who spoke English and Spanish to those who spoke English only.{} They found that those who were bilingual could better decipher sounds in a loud area.{} They also found the bilingual's attention span on one task was longer.
