A local group gathered, Saturday, to help people in need.
The Society of Saint Andrew, in Birmingham, worked three hours to bag more than 16,000 pounds of fresh green beans.
They will be distributed to almost two dozen agencies that will give them out to needy families.
The green beans were donated from a farmer because they didn't meet the length requirements set by large-scale produce buyers.
If not for being given to charity, the green beans would have been thrown out.
