Luxury cars come under scrutiny after crash tests

Luxury does not necessarily mean safety.

New crash results from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety show some luxury cars do not make the grade, especially when it comes to front end collisions that are not head on.

In test crashes of 2012 models, only three of 11 luxury cars earned what the IIHS considers good or acceptable ratings:{} The Acura TL, Volvo S60 and Infinity G.

These are not government test crashes, so auto makers aren'trequired to make any changes. But they often do, because good safetyratings from the Insurance Institute provide very good publicity.
