Gadsden man charged with killing his younger brother in Etowah County

Shawn Derrick Williams

A Gadsden man has been charged in connection with the death of his younger brother in the Tidmore Bend community.

Shawn Derrick Williams, 37, of Gadsden, is charged with capital murder for the death of his 34-year-old brother, Jamey Brent Williams, who was found dead June 28 from gunshot wounds to the head and chest inside a vehicle at his home on Pope Road.

Shortly after a homicide investigation began, the elder Williams was determined to be a person of interest in the case. While being held on Friday, June 31 for questioning about the homicide, the elder Williams assaulted a detention deputy and was charged with second-degree assault. The assault charge allowed investigators to keep him in custody until lab results were returned from a forensic team examining evidence gathered at the scene.

Upon receiving the results, investigators found enough probable cause to charge Williams with murder.

"I am proud of how hard our investigators worked on this case," said Sheriff Todd Entrekin. "Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Williams' family during this difficult time."{}

Shawn Williams is currently being held in the Etowah County Detention Center without bond.
