Jerry William Duke charged with two counts of third degree burglary

A Shelby County man is in custody after police say he stole from the same funeral home twice. 32-year-old Jerry William Duke has been charged with two counts of third degree burglary. An undisclosed amount of money was taken from the funeral home in both instances.{}The two break ins occurred at the Midway Memory Gardens funeral home off of Alabama Highway 21 in Talladega County. Captain John McCoy with Talladega police confirm that Jerry Duke broke into the main building of the funeral home both times and stole cash from the building. Nothing else was reported stolen. When{}I called the funeral director, I was told they did not want to be interviewed about the story. And that they informed police about a suspect. A few hours later, Jerry William Duke was in custody at the Talladega police department headquarters. According to Captain McCoy, Duke showed up again at the funeral home Friday morning, police located him a short time later. I'm told by police that Duke, a Wilsonville resident, who has prior offence, had done construction work for the family. Duke was taken to the Talladega County / Metro jail where he was charged with two counts of third degree burglary. Bond has been set at $5,000 for both counts.{}A conviction could mean anywhere from one to ten years in prison.
