BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Birmingham Mayor William A. Bell, Sr. will join Iron City Birmingham owner Steve Demedicis for the ribbon cutting and official grand opening of Iron City Birmingham. The ribbon cutting on the new 22,000 square foot live music and event center will be held Thursday, February 21 at 2 p.m. at 513 22nd Street South.

The former auto body and paint shop has undergone a two-year, $6 million renovation to become a 22,000 square foot live music venue and special event facility that includes three stages for music and other entertainment, backstage dressing rooms, a kitchen, two bars, a grill and a restaurant. Iron City, designed by Williams Blackstock Architects and built by Williford-Orman Construction, has a 1,200 seat capacity for concerts, weddings, luncheons and receptions in its main area with a mezzanine overlooking the main stage and pit. In addition, two smaller stages are designed to host more intimate gatherings and local acts. An open air grill can accommodate 90 guests.{}

According to owner Steve Demedicis, Iron City has been designed for live music performers and audiences. "Downtown Birmingham is experiencing a new economic vitality. People choose to live in attractive communities offering high qualities of life. Iron City will strive to be a positive addition to the fabric of what makes Birmingham a unique and special place," said Demedicis. REV Birmingham worked with Demedicis to secure acquisition of the property for the project and helped navigate city permitting and processes.
