Birmingham Mayor William Bell says he was in the wrong place at the wrong time. The Mayor's car was on the scene Friday night when shots were fired along I59 downtown.
A gunman apparently shot at another vehicle, which was in front of the Mayor's car. Bell says that his security team, two sworn Birmingham police officers, told him to keep his head down. They then took off and followed the car.
The officers did fire their weapons in the incident.
The case is now being examined by the Alabama Bureau of Investigations, but they are not releasing specific details about the shooting until the investigation is complete.
