McDonald's Chapel teen charged with murder in shooting death of Booker Heights man, 20

{}JEFFERSON COUNTY, Alabama -- A McDonald's Chapel teenager has been charged in connection with the fatal shooting of a Booker Heights man last weekend, the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office said.Tykee Smith, 19, is charged with murder in the death of 20-year-old Charles David Thomas Jr., who was found shot to death in a street on Saturday. According to a release, Smith was involved in a verbal altercation with the victim around 5 p.m. on Cherry Street, and the two later exchanged gunfire. Thomas suffered a fatal gunshot wound and died at the scene. Smith wasn't injured in the shooting.Smith surrendered to law enforcement Monday just before 6 p.m. He was booked into the Jefferson County Jail and later released on a $2,500 bond.
