Med students get white coats

Today, students at UAB's school of medicine take the first official step into med school. This is the white coat ceremony for first year med students. 187 new members of the class of 2018 filled the Alys Stephens Center at{}UAB as students were presented with their white coats. The coat is a symbol of the profession and of human compassion. Students say they're ready to begin this journey. One of those students is Amber Dixon."I'm just really into healthcare, especially for the under-served populations. So I wanted to become a doctor to help people who may not have the best access to care."The presentation of white coats is a common practice across the nation. Each student takes an oath of commitment to patient care, reminding them of the responsibilities that come with practicing medicine.
