Memorial and funeral services planned for Philip Lutzenkirchen
A memorial service for former Auburn player Philip Lutzenkirchen will be held Wednesday afternoon at Lassiter High School in Marietta, Ga.
The service is scheduled to be held at 8:00 p.m. EST at the school's football stadium.
A public visitation and funeral is planned for Thursday at Transfiguration Catholic Church in Marietta. The visitation will begin at 10:30 a.m. and the funeral mass is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
Lutzenkirchen was killed in a car crash Sunday morning in western Georgia. Authorities say the 23-year-old was a passenger in a 2006 Chevrolet Tahoe and was ejected from the vehicle when it overturned several times near LaGrange, Ga.
The driver of the vehicle, former Georgia baseball player Ian Davis, was also killed.
Lutzenkirchen graduated from Lassiter High School in 2009 and played football at Auburn from 2009-2012. He's the Tigers career leader in touchdown's by a tight end with 14. Lutzenkirchen is second in total receptions (59) and third in receiving yards (628).
Lutzenkirchen's most memorable football moment came in the 2010 Iron Bowl when he caught a late touchdown to cap off the biggest comeback in history of the Alabama-Auburn rivalry and seal the Tigers 28-27 win.
There is a funeral service scheduled for Thursday.
